Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has been unable to start its amphibious bus service – vehicles that operate on sea and land – due to lack of permissions, while its ambitious seaplane service hasn’t been able to takeoff as it has not been able to find a pilot in India with experience of 500 flying hours.

GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral said, “They selected a new operator, Supreme Transport Organisation Pvt Ltd, to operate the service but it is not in a position to start flying for want of a pilot that meets Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines.”

“The operator has the plane but there is no pilot with the required flying hours,” said Cabral adding the crux of the problem is that there is no seaplane service anywhere in India. So pilots with 500 hours of flying hours are not available.

The option available is hiring services of pilots from other countries but they demand salary of Rs 2 to 3 lakh. “Our operation will not be economically viable if we pay that high salaries to the pilots,” said Cabral. He said he would request chief minister Manohar Parrikar to intervene and get DGCA to give some relaxation to Goa.

“If need be, I will also write to PM Narendra Modi since Goa is the first state in the country to launch seaplane service,” said Cabral.

A few months ago, GTDC through fresh bidding process chose Supreme Transport Organization Pvt Ltd, after the earlier operator was unable to start the service, despite of having both pilot and co-pilot. It was unable to execute the agreement.

DGCA guidelines say a co-pilot should have a minimum experience of 125 hours flying hours. “The pilot engaged by the earlier operator got married and settled abroad. We can’t hire her,” said Cabral.

GTDC has been struggling for the past year in getting various permissions to start its amphibious bus service, even as permissions from local authorities were obtained. With it being the first such service in the country, an approval of the Union ministry of road and surface transport is also required. The specially designed amphibious buses, manufactured locally, are lying unused after its soft launch more than a year ago. The amphibious buses were introduced to showcase tourist hinterlands of Goa.

We give so much of preference to chartered tourists and chartered flights. When the reality of the matter is that only a mere 13 percent of what these tourists actually pay comes down into the Goan economy. While the balance 87% remains in the sending country.

Extension of military flights will hamper chartered arrivals at Dabolim

Messais predicts a 50 percent drop in the charter flights. His reason being the extension of flying hours for military flight by the Indian Navy.

Doesn’t Messias know that tourist have stopped coming to Goa not because of non availability of parking berths at the airport, its on account of Goa’s deteriorating infrastructure, unsafe destination, poor maintenance of beaches etc.

Messais needs to be crying hoarse for these demand first.

Now, CM promises to solve taxi issues by December

Parrikar talks of solving 2 issues by December. He says taxi’s are one, I wonder which is the other?

http://englishnews.thegoan.net/story.php?id=37143

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar insisted that he intends to keep his promise on solving the issues plaguing the taxi industry, but bizarrely said that he promised to solve the issues by December.
“Two things I have promised by December, which I will keep. I will start tackling the taxi issues from next week. The ministers concerned
were not there. I was also saddled with a lot of other decision making processes,” Parrikar said.
On July 28, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had made a categorical statement on the floor of the Goa Legislative Assembly that, he would hold a series of meetings across the month of September and resolve the issue of taxi meters by September 30.
However, till date no meetings were held and with the September 30 deadline looming, the issues will in all likelihood not be resolved before Saturday.
The CM had given the assurance after a private member resolution moved by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral who demanded that taxis in Goa compulsorily install taxi meters.
Besides the issue of overcharging, the demand to allow online cab aggregators in Goa has also been a long pending demand by the state’s population.
