Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar insisted that he intends to keep his promise on solving the issues plaguing the taxi industry, but bizarrely said that he promised to solve the issues by December.
“Two things I have promised by December, which I will keep. I will start tackling the taxi issues from next week. The ministers concerned
were not there. I was also saddled with a lot of other decision making processes,” Parrikar said.
On July 28, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had made a categorical statement on the floor of the Goa Legislative Assembly that, he would hold a series of meetings across the month of September and resolve the issue of taxi meters by September 30.
However, till date no meetings were held and with the September 30 deadline looming, the issues will in all likelihood not be resolved before Saturday.
The CM had given the assurance after a private member resolution moved by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral who demanded that taxis in Goa compulsorily install taxi meters.
Besides the issue of overcharging, the demand to allow online cab aggregators in Goa has also been a long pending demand by the state’s population.
