At the NDA meeting held in Delhi which was also attended by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar representing the MGP, Sardesai drew the attention of NDA leadership, including the PM the issue of nationalisation of Goa’s rivers. “I drew attention of the PM that Goans, who pursue traditional occupations, will face immense hardships if they have to seek permissions of the Centre to pursue their occupations. I also underlined the need on the party to delegate powers to the State government by amending the Environment Protection Act to frame State centric laws on sound ban,” he said.
“I drew the attention of the NDA leadership the need to protect and preserve Goa’s ethos and culture, heritage and traditions. Given that the State is a tourist destination, I drew attention of the leaders how the ban on liquor outlets has hit the industry and how the Sound pollution Act has affected tourism and local traditions,” he added.

Will stop late night parties in 2 weeks: Vinod Palyekar

All late night parties and the activities that go along with these parties must be stopped!!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/will-stop-late-night-parties-in-2-weeks-palyekar/articleshow/58117937.cms

Minister for water resources and Siolim MLA Vinod Palyekar claimed that the police crackdown on late night parties along the Anjuna and Vagator beach stretches has resulted in majority of them shutting down. He further assured to completely stop all loud music parties in the next two weeks.

“We have already stopped 80% of these parties. Within two weeks, all the parties will be shut. The police have already been instructed,” Palyekar said, adding that “stopping of such late night parties is the first step in stopping the infestation of drug trade along the coast”.

The Siolim MLA has said that the late night parties in his constituency are creating a problem for elderly citizens as well as the student community, which is in examination mode.

“Inspite of several warnings and reminders, late night music goes on till 4 am, which is creating problems not only for elderly citizens, but also to the student community, which is answering exams,” he said.
The minister also complained that despite clear instructions, some people in Siolim are misusing his title to get away with the police and continue to hold rave parties.
“The only obstruction is coming from some of the hoteliers as their business is impacted. I have given a final warning to the police now and would be meeting the chief minister on this matter,” he said, adding that “late night parties are not part of the Indian culture and thus, not to be encouraged”.

Centre moots cable car from airport to port

Parrikar has really not learnt his lesson after the last cable car fiasco in Margao.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/centre-moots-cable-car-from-airport-to-port/articleshow/58099725.cms

Union minister for road, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has proposed a cable bus system to connect the international airport at Dabolim to Mormugao port at Vasco to reduce the dependence of air passengers on road transport. Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said the state government would undertake a feasibility study to see if the proposal of connectivity by cable car was viable.

“We want to introduce a cable car type bus-service based on five technologies that have been presented to us,” Gadkari said.

“On a trial basis we have selected some sectors. From the airport to the water port, where our work is on, we will try to have a cable car system and from there they (passengers and tourists) can go to their hotel by boat,” Gadkari said while speaking to media after inspecting the under construction Zuari bridge.

According to Gadkari, it would cost around Rs 50 crore per kilometer to develop the cable car type public transport system while still catering to passenger capacity along the lines of a metro mass transit system.

Parrikar, who was present for the inspection, said that Gadkari’s proposal was worth evaluating but appeared to suggest that the project would be difficult to implement in Goa. “Cable car is a proposal given by Gadkari and we will examine it. You have to have a corridor for it, you have to have space, poles erected. Idea is one thing but once you have an idea, you have to see feasibility. Feasibility and availability aspects also matter,” Parrikar said.

The chief minister went on to say that Goa required a multi-modal comprehensive mobility plan to address the pathetic public transport system. “Comprehensive mobility plan is being examined by the state. We will appoint a consultant. We are thinking of using electric and hybrid buses for intercity and intra city transport,” Parrikar said.

Gadkari said that it “for the Airports Authority and Goa government to give their approval.”
Parrikar accepted that “Goa’s transport system is in a mess” and that a reliable and consistent public transport system linking all the towns and villages was the need of the hour.
“The buses are crowded and they operate buses only when there is a rush. They don’t operate when the number of passengers drops to a particular number. In order to build up reliability, it requires a system that operates even during lean period. Such a system is operational between Margao Panjim, Panaji Vasco. We want to have intercity connectivity with fixed time operation of buses. Each city will have intra city bus system,” Parrikar said.
