Whether Goan or not… Mr Lobo, the consumers are Goan Youth and not just in the coastal villages…but deep in the hinterlands. Just by saying that the ones involved in the drug and flesh trade are not Goan doesn’t help the case.
Insisting that those involved in drugs and prostitution rackets in Calangute are outsiders and not Goans, Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said he supports the police crackdown on these illegal activities.
Asked to comment on frequent drugs and prostitution cases in Calangute and other parts of North Goa, Lobo said: “It will be wrong to say that Calangute has become a hub for drugs and prostitution activities, as those involved in such activities are not Goans.”
“If I have any information of such activities taking place in my area, I immediately get in touch with the DGP, SP and Calangute police and inform them about such illegalities. If other MLAs also have such kind of information, they should co-operate with the police and help curb such activities,” Lobo told The Goan.
“For last five years as MLA, I raised my voice against prostitution. For some time there was no action from the police, but now I am satisfied the police is back on their toes.”
