Licences to beach shacks will be issued by the end of this week as soon as the tourism department, Goa state pollution control board (GSPCB) and Goa state coastal zone management authority (GCZMA) complete joint inspection of shacks.
Many of the beach shacks in the Calangute-Candolim beach belt have started functioning over the last few days, though some of the bigger shacks, with elaborate interiors, are yet to commence operations.
Tourism director Sanjeev Gauns Dessai said the joint inspection started on Monday, which they hope to complete in the next two-three days, and after which licenses will be issued.
Asked about the delay in issuing licenses, he said they waited until everyone erected their shacks and then conducted the inspection to avoid any trouble later. “We didn’t issue licenses first as we wanted to ensure that allottees set up shacks within the area earmarked to them,” said Dessai.
A total of 364 shacks were allotted earlier this month with maximum allowed in the Calangute-Candolim beach belt, but the licence period of these shacks will be of one-year as against the three-year period of shacks allotted at other beaches.
They have had a virtual laying of the foundation stone on a land that still has not got proper NGT clearances.
