Now foreigners conduct business at Arambol beach

Why is the government turning a blind eye to these activities. These people come on tourist visas and conduct business ….would we be allowed the same in their countries? The government should not only track these tourists , they should fine them heavily for violation their visa rules and ban them from coming back for a couple of years

6th off-shore casino to start ops in April

Under Parrikar led BJP government the Casinos are here to stay

The sixth off-shore casino is set to start its operations in River Mandovi from next month. Even as there are ministers, who, at one time had strongly opposed the clearance for the sixth off-shore casino, the Manohar Parrikar cabinet on Monday granted permission to M/s Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd to operate its casino in River Mandovi for six months.

Consent to M/s Golden Globe Hotel Pvt Ltd (GGHPL) to function in River Mandovi for the period staring April 1 to September 31, 2017, has been granted on par with five off-shore vessels already operating in the river. The permission has been granted in compliance with the high court order, the official said.

M/s Golden Globe Hotel Pvt Ltd obtained a relief after it had moved the high court on the failure of the state government to consider its case for renewal of licence even after it had paid dues of Rs 48 crore.

The GGHPL, a subsidiary of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda’s MDLR Group, had filed a fresh petition for the renewal of licence of the offshore casino, before the home department earlier this month.
This was after the high court of Bombay at Goa had directed the state government to consider the application filed by GGHPL, seeking renewal of licence for its offshore casino in Mandovi within 24 hours. The home department had asked GGHPL to produce some statutory documents which was also complied with.

When the licence was renewed on March 9, Goa Forward Party had attacked the state government saying it had colluded with the casino lobby to bring in more casinos in the state.
In September 2016, the state government has stated before the high court that it would favorably consider the application for further renewal of casino licences from the year 2016 in case GGHPL deposits the annual recurring fees. GGPHL had approached the court as the fee payable was to the tune of Rs 50 crore.
S G Desai, senior counsel appearing for the petitioners (GGHPL), had told the court that the payment would be made soon. And accordingly, the payments were made. As the government, apparently, fearing a backlash in the elections, didn’t renew the licence, the company approached the high court.

Cavelossim says no to mini harbour

Why does Cavelossim need a mini harbour? the people have given their verdict that they are not for this!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/cavelossim-says-no-to-mini-harbour/articleshow/57845018.cms

The Cavelossim gram sabha on Sunday firmly opposed the nationalisation of rivers and the proposed mini-harbour/satellite port at Betul.

The gram sabha members refused to approve the budget stating that proper allocation must be made as per the village development plan. The former sarpanch and current panchayat member Edwin Barretto informed TOI that “it was decided to open the beach access to the Mobor-Cavelossim beach. Sarpanch Viola Costa informed the gram sabha that the village panchayat had obtained all requisite permissions from the property owners that has been forwarded to the PWD for the purpose of road construction, a year ago. The matter ought to be expedited. A letter is forwarded to South Goa collector Swapnil Naik, requesting the land and survey department to demarcate it”.

GTDC Hot Air Balloons

Goa seems to have become GTDC’s private property. They can now land hot air balloons just where they please and then say that this is the new route! don’t such landings need permissions from the local panchyats? Don’t the local people need to know that such landings are likely to happen in their village?

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/26-sidharth-gtdc-hot-air-balloons/articleshow/57845000.cms

Day after a hot air balloon landed at a village in Raia, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation clarified that the service providers are conducting longer duration rides and are thus landing at new sites.

“Following the second incident of the hot air balloon landing at a new site in Raia on Saturday, GTDC has taken stock of the situation. The hot air balloon rides are being conducted and landings taking place as per the required procedures without endangering passengers or property,” GTDC said in a statement it released, denying that the landing at Raia was a crash landing.
The department said that the news of crash landing is an attempt to create panic and paralyze a successful adventure initiative.
“In both cases where the hot air balloon landed at new open spaces in South Goa has followed all routine landing procedures and no negative feedback has been received from the passengers on board. During the last two years of this service in Goa no untoward incident has ever occurred and every flight and landing has been safe and successful and the rides have been a delightful experience for all tourists who have availed of this adventure activity,” Gavin Dias, general manager, GTDC said, adding that the company conducting the rides has experienced pilots and has been conducting operations in other parts of India since 2008.
