Taxi operators to move Supreme Court against speed governors
Where is this finally going to lead to? the government too doesn’t seem to have any strong will to solve this problem and the taxi owners and drivers seem to be running from pillar to post when all this could have been avoided if they had taken very viable options that were presented to them

Three more dead turtles wash ashore in state
With the government not regulating watersports activities , the intense activity of vessels in the zone close to the shore can be probable causes of these turtles dying.

Three more carcasses of Olive Ridley turtles washing up on Palolem and Benaulimbeaches during the last two days has added to the growing concern over the stranding of marine species on Goa’s coastline.
The two dead turtles were first found on Benaulim and Palolem beach on Friday. “Both were fresh and didn’t show much signs of injury,” a source said.
On Saturday, one more dead turtle was found in the surf zone at Benaulim beach. “This one, too, was fresh, with no signs of injury. It may have died just a few hours earlier,” a source said.
In the past, instances of injuries and deaths of flippered visitors along the coast were reported occasionally. But after an exercise to compile data on these strandings was initiated by marine conservation organization Terra Conscious, in association with the forest department and Drishti Marine, the figures are raising alarm.
A total of 44 strandings have been reported in just eight months. “A total of nine dolphins, three porpoises, one whale (possibly) and 24 dead turtles have been recorded. In addition, eight injured turtles were rescued, treated and released back to the sea,” the source said.
While wild life activists are becoming increasingly worried over the mortalities, they attribute the cause to the intense activity of vessels in the zone close to the shore.
The government has not yet taken serious note of the rising accidents. Many of these flippered visitors may be arriving on shore for nesting and collide with the craft of the water sports operators or other vessels.

Raids at 2 places unearth drugs worth Rs 12 lakh
The everyday drug raids are an indication of the scale of the drug use among the Goans. Unless the government is firm about dealing with this menace, we will only be catching the small flies while the actual kingpins go scot free
The Goa police arrested a middle-aged Goan and a man from Bihar in two separate cases, seizing drugs worth around Rs 12 lakh from them during the raids conducted in the wee hours of Friday at two different coastal villages of North Goa district.
In the first case, the crime branch arrested one Menino Felix Fernandes, a 58-year-old man from Anjuna, and seized drugs worth Rs 7.5 lakh during a raid conducted at Anjuna in the wee hours of Friday.
Fernandes was found possessing 67 gm of MDMA and 9.39 gm of cocaine, both worth around Rs 7.5 lakh, the police said.
“We had been tracking movements of the accused. We suspect that the accused has been into drug related activities for many years. The probe is on to ascertain if he has any accomplices in the crime,” said crime branch DySP Sammy Tavares.
In the second drug haul case, the ANC arrested one
Akshat Kumar (23), who hails from Bihar, during a raid conducted near the fish market, Arambol in Pernem taluka.
Acting on a tip-off, an ANC team conducted the raid in the wee hours of Friday and nabbed Kumar for illegal possession of 2.5 kg of suspected ganja and 1.1 kg of suspected charas, both worth around Rs 4.5 lakh.
The Anjuna raid was conducted by crime branch team PSI Marlon D’Souza along with PSIs Sujay Korgaonkar, Laxi Amonkar, Edwin Dias and the staffers – Vinayak Sawant, Sriram Salgaonkar, Vinay Srivastava and Ashok Gawade.
On the other hand, the ANC team that conducted the raid at Arambol was led by PSI Rahul Naik, who worked under the supervision of PI Suraj Halarnkar.
