Escort services and prostitution run professionally through internet: Goa CM

The government is not really serious about banning prostitution in the state. They are dragging their feet . Its a well know fact that today most of the prostitution in the state is through the internet. The government can ban sites if they have the will and the determination to do so. Unfortunately they lack both.

The chief minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar told state Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, that escort services and prostitution are being professionally run via internet. Since 2013, he said 106 raids were conducted and FIRs filed, in a written reply to a question tabled by Margao MLA, Digambar Kamat during ‘question hour’ on Tuesday.

He said 32 cases are pending trial, 67 cases are under investigation, and an acquittal in one case. The Cyber Crime Police Station which is assisting the investigation with technical data, has written to Computer Emergency Response Team – India(CERT-in) at New Delhi in the past, requesting to block sites and disable key word search through search engines with keywords “Goa escort”, “escort service in Goa” and “escort Goa.”
“The contact numbers and email addresses published on the escort sites are analyzed, the ownership established and the data is shared with crime branch for further action. The Cyber Crime Police Station is empowered to registered cases only under IT Act and Intellectual property rights related cases. The cases under ITP Act are not registered at Cyber Crime police station,” said Parsekar.

Song and dance but no cash

Why was permission given in 2016 if dues of 2014/15 had not been cleared ? One really needs to question the capacity and motives of this government , nothing is what meets the eye.

Goa welcomes first tourist on special wheelchair accessible holiday

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Goa-welcomes-first-tourist-on-special-wheelchair-accessible-holiday/articleshow/53470599.cms

A number of persons with disabilities gathered in Panaji on Saturday morning to welcome twenty-five-year old graphic designer, Sai Kaustuv Dasgupta who arrived from Andhra Pradesh on a first-of-its-kind wheelchair accessible holiday organized by Umoja, an online travel portal for persons with disabilities (PWD).

Diagnosed with brittle bone disease Dasgupta who suffered more than 50 fractures, couldn’t believe his luck at being able to travel to Goa after winning Umoja’s Wheelchair Wanderlust competition.

To collect feedback, a meeting, organized by the state commission for persons with disabilities, witnessed intense discussions which revolved around making Goa a destination accessible for PWD. A number of wheelchair users confessed they couldn’t recall the last time they visited the beach simply because is isn’t accessible to persons with disabilities.

Co-founder and CEO of Umoja, Yeshwant Holkar, who has identified around 35 places including restaurants and tourist spots in the state which are pretty accessible to persons with disabilities is yet to find a beach that is accessible.

He expressed willingness to work with the state government and the tourism department to ensure that at least a single beach in the tourist state can be made accessible to wheelchair users so that the joy of the ocean could be experienced by all.

One of the visually impaired people present also spoke of his difficulties in navigating with the help of a cane in the sand. Suggestions for beach mats cropped up and examples of them being used in Australia were also cited.

State commissioner for persons with disabilities, Anuradha Joshi, took note of the suggestions and has agreed to take it up with the government.

Dasgupta said wheelchair users often hesitate to travel because they fear places may be inaccessible to them.

Holkar is looking to identify hotels, restaurants and other spaces which are accessible in the state. People must understand that making tourism feasible for persons with disabilities is not only the right thing to do but a profitable proposition too, he said.

The first wheelchair accessible taxi in the state ‘Freedom Cab’ will be unveiled on August 15. Dasgupta sang his heart out for his new found friends and showed them a video of his life while writer and poet Frederika Menezes recited one of her poems.

Private shacks: NGT drags MoEF, Goa CS into case

http://englishnews.thegoan.net/story.php?id=21295

In an order issued on Tuesday, the NGT expressed its frustration over the lack of implementation of its orders by the GCZMA. It also demanded to know the accountability part after the GCZMA’s term has recently expired.
Complainant Aleixo Arnolfo Pereira had brought to the notice of the NGT that the GCZMA had granted permissions for more than 3,500 shacks to be set up in private properties along the beaches despite there being specific directions from the tribunal not to do so.
He also brought on record GCZMA’s guidelines for one shack per property. He was seeking execution of NGT’s order by the GCZMA.
The NGT’s order on Tuesday stated, “Having noticed default wilful or otherwise, we were constrained to issue notice of show cause as is evident from our order dated 2nd May, 2016. The notice requires GCZMA and its Chairman to explain lapses and particularly the act of the GCZMA in issuing licences erratically to more than one respondent against its own guidelines
and order.”
It observed further, “The order dated 2nd May, 2016, has been defied. There is non-compliance, except filing an answer to the show cause by GCZMA. The learned counsel representing GCZMA Fawia M Mesquita submits that she has been engaged (by the GCZMA) recently … and [is] unable to explain whether there are lapses on its part. It is also brought to our notice that on expiry of its term, GCZMA is no longer legally in existence and new GCZMA has to be constituted.”
“In the circumstances, the legal entity i.e. GCZMA is said to be not in existence as on today. Consequently, who has to answer? Undoubtedly, MoEF has to answer to the lapses and act of malfeasance and misfeasance/or violation of the orders of this tribunal. Hence, we issue notice to the Principal Secretary MoEF to look into these issues and make his submission by the next date of hearing.”
The GCZMA had cancelled licenses of all private shacks in response to directions from NGT leading to protests from the All Goa Private Shack and Hut Owners’ Association led by Dharmesh Saglani.

Multi million dollar drugs trade have reached villages.

Its becoming very clear that villages far away from the coast are facing issues of drugs and prostitution . The government and the police are turning a blind eye to this issue. Its not the Nigerians only who deal with drugs. Its our very own who not just deal but are habitual users. Unless the government takes firm actions , we are heading for disaster.
