CRT welcomes Police verification

CRT WELCOMES POLICE VERIFICATION

The Centre for Responsible Tourism (CRT) which works as a rallying point for communities and small operators in the tourism sector in Goa welcomes the decision of the Police Department, in the wake of the UBER taxi service related rape case in Delhi, to verify the antecedents of the taxi drivers as it would curtail not only illegal drivers from operating but also legal operators from using private vehicles for taxi services. The Police department ought to strengthen the system to check operators using private vehicles for taxi service, illegally.

Large-sized taxi operators often compete with local interests, such as tourist taxi owners and drivers, only due to corporate greed. CRT also raises serious concern over the attempts of the Government of Goa to facilitate the web based taxi service through operators in the State. There is a great amount of disappointment that the government which should engage the common people in securing their livelihood is enabling the introduction of taxi services by the big business.

We urge the respective departments of the Government enhance the necessary infrastructure to curtail the illegalities prevailing in the state which devours the small enterprises from growing.
