Goa Tourism extends support to #TeraMeraBeach Campaign launched today at Baga beach

Lots of big talk, its not just about doing such one off events that will help curb the pollution and garbage on the beaches. Do our beaches even have proper dustbins to discard the waste?
Some beaches that do have bins but they are placed so far in the bushes that no one will even walk to them . Also where is this garbage finally dumped? is it sorted and properly disposed or is it simply taken from one place and dumped in another.
PANAJI: Goa Tourism today has extended its support to the #TeraMeraBeach campaign which commenced at Baga Beach on Friday and is scheduled to continue over the next five months at various beaches across the state.

The one-and-a-half hour campaign activity is aimed at creating awareness about cleanliness on the beaches of Goa everyday through music and art and on-shore cleanliness drives.

Initiated by Drishti Marine, the innovative beach cleanliness campaign will also cover the sandy shores of Calangute, Candolim, Miramar and Colva.

The campaign will sensitize tourists on issues concerning waste and its management using the techniques of music and art from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

The #TeraMeraBeach campaign was today inaugurated at Baga beach by Michael Lobo, deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.

Menino D’Souza, director of tourism said “Goa tourism supports the #TeraMeraBeach campaign which will serve as a good platform to create awareness about cleanliness and hygiene on the beaches of Goa. The government is very serious about ensuring cleanliness on the beaches which covers 105 kms of the states coastline.”

Such awareness campaigns, D’Sousa said will encourage tourists not to litter waste on the beaches and create awareness about segregation of solid waste. “It will further sensitize tourists to minimize the use of plastic waste and glass bottles on the beaches which is creating a huge problem in the state, polluting beaches and destroying the marine eco-systems.”

GTDC: master plan to lay emphasis on sustainability of tourism

Any plan that is drawn out without taking the local stake holders into account is meant to be a plan only on paper. All local stakeholders on the ground have to be made accountable and have to share in the responsibility towards making tourism a non polluting industry.

GTDC only has pipe dreams and those will only remain on paper.

Cab owners in South Goa regret leaving traditional occupations

Unfortunately the taxi drivers because of a few black sheep in the pack have succumbed politicians who have never felt the need to sort out their grievances. They have allowed themselves to get carried away especially when there were viable options offered to them. In the process they have lost all public sympathy.
