Chief Minister Parsekar has a foot on both sides when he argues that he is neither pushing the Tiracol golf course or the Marinas. This is his own backyard and his attempt to duck the truth by leaning on technicalities and bureaucratic machinations will not hold water amongst the local people who have been cheated by big business and betrayed by government.
Clearly the government is unwilling to take tough positions .
The tragedy of Tiracol dates back to 2005 . It was the then Congress government that opened the doors wide to the directors of leading hotels. It was then chief minister Rane and later Digamber Kamat who stitched up and unholy alliance. It was further blessed by BJP chief minister Parrikar and his successor Parsekar.
In the final analysis it is the government which has sold out to the corporates and paved the way for one of the most bio diverse spaces in the Konkan region to be endangered. The people will fight back.
Chief Minister Parsekar is sitting on the fence and that is dangerous which side will he fall on when he does fall? if he falls on the side of the people, he will salvage some dignity and political respect. On the other hand if he falls on the side of the leading hotels he would have committed a serious betrayal.
Either he is naive when it comes to development economics or his party is sold out to big business.
It is obvious that the government is pushing for Leading Hotels despite denials. The price for betrayal will be paid in the 2017 elections.
