Casino policy to be unveiled soon

Yes we may finally see the unveiling soon but does this reflect the efficiency of the government or is this to please and accommodate Kanda and his business aspirations of running a casino in Goan waters at any cost.

Casino relocation policy next week

What Parrikar didn’t manage in 3 months, he now promises next week!

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/casino-relocation-policy-next-week/articleshow/62126628.cms

By next week the state government will come out with a policy to shift offshore casinos out of River Mandovi, chief minister Manohar Parrikar told the House on Monday. Three months ago, following a cabinet meeting, Parrikar had said that “by December, we will come up with the main policy on relocation of casinos”.

While the previous BJP-led government had identified locations in the Aguada bay, Zuari, Chapora and Sal rivers, the proposal to shift the vessels did not see light of day for the last two years.

After the BJP-led government took charge in March, Parrikar said his government is committed to moving casinos out of River Mandovi, but only after an alternative site is identified.

2017’s biggest charas seizure, supplier caught

Supposedly the biggest haul of 2017. we have to leave it to our imagination as to what actual drug dealings in Goa must be.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/yrs-biggest-charas-seizure-supplier-caught/articleshow/62110924.cms

Anti narcotic cell (ANC) of Goa police on Saturday arrested a drug supplier Raj Sharma,32, Delhi resident, from Mapusa and confiscated 6kg charas, worth Rs 18 lakh. Police said it is the biggest seizure of charas in the year.
An ANC officer said that in a recent crackdown against drug dealers/suppliers, the ANC staff caught a drug supplier who used to get drugs from Nepal.

The officer said the ANC had succeeded in catching a number of drug peddlers in 2017 and seized drugs worth more than a crore.

The ANC was able to nab the big supplier by laying a trap and waiting patiently for two to three days, the senior officer said.

“The accused confessed to buying the drugs from the Nepal border and that he came to Goa for supplying the same to drugs peddlers in the state with whom he had struck a deal,” the senior officer said. But the ANC raid foiled the plan, the officer added.
“Superintendent of police (ANC) declared a reward for the ANC staff for the good work,” the senior officer said.
Sources said, the interrogation of the accused is in progress to establish the other links and trace the other suppliers, who surface during the tourist season.

Tar balls surface on some beaches along North Goa coast

As we have more cruise ships visiting our shores, it also means more dumping of raw sewage into our oceans and the result is for us to pay…tar balls on our beaches.  The sea invariable throws back what we throw in!

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/tar-balls-surface-on-some-beaches-along-n-goa-coast/articleshow/62110937.cms

Oily tar balls have surfaced again on Miramar beach and some stretches of North Goa coast from Anjunato Keri, as the sticky matter on the shore slightly troubled tourists enjoying a walk or a dip in the sea.
A long stretch of the beach from Miramar to Caranzalem towards the south was tarred black with a filmy deposition of the tar balls. Though big blobs were not seen, it left stains on the soles of the feet and the skin.

Sources said the tar ball problem was mild and not a major problem, as it occurs during pre-monsoon and the rainy season in all intensity. “There are no big patches of the tar balls so far,” a tourism stakeholder said.

The churning of currents on the high seas gives rise to the tar ball phenomenon, especially during May-October season, fouling the water and the beach ambience. The deposition of oily hydro-carbons was first being noticed in 1970s, but over the last few decades, the incidence has been growing due to increased movement of ships in marine waters.

The oil influx in Indian waters is attributed to rogue ships emptying their tanks or leakage from oil rigs.
Due to lack reliable data, the extent of pollution contribution to the overall problem remains unassessed.
A strict implementation of International convention for the prevention of pollution from ships, 1973/1978 has been lacking in India, sources said.
