Fishermen brothers, Ramdas Pagi and Laxman Pagi, were allegedly assaulted by Shivkumar Naik, a shack owner at Dhavalkhajan, Agonda beach, on Wednesday. Agitated locals later destroyed the shack belonging to Naik.

A fight broke out between Naik and the Pagi brothers over nets and other fishing material belonging to the brothers, which were kept close to the shack operated by Naik. On Tuesday, Naik had requested the fishemen to move their fishing equipment, claiming that it was disturbing his business. On Wednesday, the arguments turned violent and Naik allegedly attacked the two brothers. They were first taken to community health centre, Canacona, and later shifted to Hospicio, Margao.
Locals alleged that some of the shacks were illegal. Shack owners are creating problems for the traditional fishermen as well as for locals, they said.
