GTDC to develop area surrounding Santa Monica jetty

GTDC seems to getting their hands into ventures that they know nothing about and have no clue of…. one such case was the Women’s taxi service ! Here is yet another !!! All pipe dream projects … !

After completing the multi-level car parking facility and Santa Monica jetty, Goa tourism development corporation (GTDC) is now developing the jetty area. Krishna Associates last week won the bid to develop and beautify the jetty area, including erecting kiosks and making seating arrangement besides operating the multi-car parking facility.

A member of the bid selection committee said Krishna Associates was selected after it made an “impressive presentation” on how it would develop the place and operate the car park. The lease agreement, which will be signed shortly, will be for a period of 33 years with the agency paying GTDC Rs 1.45 crore annually, he said.

The development and facilities will have to be carried out in line with a blue print drawn out by the GTDC, he pointed out.

The agency will also get advertising rights for the lease period. “The work entails developing the area which means he [the successful bidder] has to invest and earn profit by developing and running the place,” he said.

While the reconstructed Santa Monica Jetty was commissioned a year ago, no facilities were added subsequently. There is no seating arrangement for visitors at the jetty and there is no proper queue system followed, the member pointed out.
The successful bidder also gets to run the restaurant.
One of the interesting aspects of the proposed car park system, the member said, was that there will be indicators that showing occupancy at each level, even before motorists enter the car park.
