After three years, German charters likely to revisit Goa

Its hoping that the next season will have German charters and tourists . Only time will tell if this will happen. The the question remains, what does Goa have to offer ? Infrastructure is at its worst ,garbage is only piling, beaches dirtier and the list goes on….will all this get back the tourists ?

After a gap of three years, there is a possibility of charters flying into Goa from Germany for the new tourism season that opens in October. Scheduled flights are also expected from Finland.

“Our efforts are likely to bear fruit next season. We are expecting charters from Hamburg,” said managing director at Cicerone Air Transport Services, Joao Xavier ‘Bush’ Miranda, on Monday.

Miranda declined to divulge more details but said they will shortly approach chief minister Manohar Parrikar seeking his support make arrivals from Germany a possibility.

In 2014-15, Goa did not receive a single charter from Germany even as a year earlier, in 2013-14, as many as 19 charters had landed in Goa from Germany.

Germany’s Condor, one of the first airlines to start charter operations to Goa in the 1980s, discontinued its operation in 2014-15 because of high cost of operations.
Besides the high possibility of resumption of German charters, Miranda said they are also expecting two scheduled flights a week from Helsinki airport, Finland during the next season.
Goa receives charters from Finland, but the numbers are not impressive. Last season, Goa received 12 charters from Finland bringing in 1,776 tourists whereas in 2015-16, as many as 14 charters had landed in Goa bringing with them a total of 2,145 tourists.

Helsinki airport has regular flights to US, London as well other European destinations. Miranda said they expect a surge in free independent travellers (FIT) to Goa via Helsinki. As it stands today, two scheduled flights a week will fly into Goa from October, said Miranda.
